The bees simply amaze me! I am in awe of their ability to build so much so fast. Inspection day has come to be my favorite day of the week. The hives are booming and for about a week the bees were building swarm cells. We panicked and quickly built two more hives just in case. Of course, as Murphy's Law would predict, the swarm cells remain empty and there is no evidence that they are considering the swarm any further. It is rare for first year hives to swarm since they have plenty of room to expand. Maybe it was the stretch of rainy days that left them feeling too close for comfort. I opened up the brood nest with a few empty bars and that seemed to convince them that they are doing just fine.
